Come up by cable car directly from Bozen, with nothing but green all around. The forest, the meadows and the mountain air will all make you hungry! Should you go straight to eat – or first go for a walk? The Gasthof Kohlern is just a short distance from the top station, traditional and expressive, elegant and genuine in character – exactly like the menu! We use local produce where possible, with regional ingredients if necessary – the fare is in any case always seasonal.
"Forget about bird food – enjoyment with seeds, kernels, and nuts" is the motto of South Tyrolean restaurants during the “Erntedank" gastronomic promotion weeks from 26th September to 2nd November 2025. The focus is on creative and unique culinary creations that highlight the flavor and diversity of autumnal ingredients.
This year, the strong relationship between innkeepers and producers is the focus with the innkeepers transforming these connections into tasty, distinctive dishes. Whether as protagonists on the plate or as tasty accompaniments - there are no limits to the creativity of the cooks.

Cooking is a form of expression and in Kohlern it stands for honesty. Schlutzkrapfen (pasta pockets), local salmon trout fillet, marinated veal cheeks served with tomato and onion salad – and perhaps one of our range of over 500 wines to accompany it. Here food tastes like... Kohlern, the mountain above the city! Not only on our spacious summer patio, where the ancient lime trees provide shade and every meal is accompanied by fresh mountain air, but also on the veranda or in the comfortable pine lounge. The past and present come together on the plate, at the hotel, in the ambience. This is a “South Tyrolean Inn” that cannot easily be classified.
